obacco consumption is becoming a serious problem throughout the world and particularly in developing countries. Exposure to tobacco in any form whether smoking, chewing or inhaling tobacco dust directly influenced the foetal, Neo-natal and maternal health.The book is based on the finding of a research project entitled "Influence of tobacco dust, Maternal smoking and Tobacco chewing during pregnancy on Prenatal Mortality, Birth weight and Body size among the offspring's of Bidi workers", sponsored by University Grant Commission, New Delhi. The work embodied in this book is original. An attempt has been made to co-relate the tobacco consumption and maternal health among the Bidi workers, who highly exposed themselves to tobacco dust, practiced habitual smoking and chewing tobacco. The book covers different aspects of Foetal, Neonatal, and Maternal health in relation to exposure to tobacco in any form. In view of its dimensions, the book, which is first of its kind in Medical Anthropology, would be of immense help and use to readers, academicians and researchers from diverse disciplines, like Biological Anthropology, Medicine, Health Demography and social work etc.
