With a firm belief that only education can open door for a higher and richer civilization, the Vidya Samvardhak Mandal of Nipani has been striving hard since 1960 to turn a small rose- plant into a hugely blooming academic garden for the people in and around the town of Nipani .Initially the intention was to provide education through Kannada medium for countless kannada families so that they can receive knowledge with ease. With sincere efforts of Shri. R.S. Kothiwale, Dr. S. S. Panade, Shri. G. I. Bagewadi, Shri. M. L. Khaded, Shri. D. C. Ligade, Shri. B. M. Nesti, Shri. Paragouda Patil, Shri. G.S. Kurbetti, Shri. R. S. Kalyanshetti and Shri. R. B. Jadhav, the Vidya Samvardhak Mandal was formally established in 1960 to improve the civilized character of individual and of the society as well.
The initial need of a proper, suitable place, building, and above all, funds could be overcome with the help of the educational enthusiasts who readily came forward with cash or kind with determination to spread education in its proper spirit. All the men related with the Mandal and all the students for time to come, no doubt remain and will ever remain grateful to the pioneer-members of the Mandal Shri. Gangadharanna Kurbetti appeal to Shri Mulajisikka, Calcutta, was immediately materialized in 3 acres foundation for school building and 3acres for play ground for the children.
What a social noble act! Who will not feel great to the sanity act of Shri Mulajisikka Calcutta? A sincere will, does not delay the action. Within a couple of days a temporary but convenient building was constructed for the purpose & class-room doors for 285 students of 8th, 9th, 10th & 11th were open for an ever noble activity of education. The pioneer Head-Master, Shri V. G. Ganmukhi ably founded a rich tradition of administration. An effective administration both at the academic & management levels, naturally attracted students from the town and nearby villages inviting the problem to accommodate the growing strength of students. The Mandal could overcome the major problem of funds with the voluntary support of all kind by a good number of rich businessmen from Nipani who wanted to share the noble mission undertaken by the VSM. The foundation stone of the newly proposed building which would hold one class-room in one donor name was laid at the auspicious hand of the education minister Annarao Ganmukhi, & thus the path of academic prosperity began leading to the opening of a primary school in 1963 and in view of the increasing number of female students a separate Girls High School in 1966.
The major hurdle in educational expansion, everyone knows, is funds (money). Yet Late. Shri Ganapati Ishwarappa Bagewadi, an ever great philanthropic soul of Nipani came forward to enforce the Mandals academic march ahead. The VSM also, with a gratitudinal feeling has named after him the high school at Nipani. The naming ceremony was conducted at the auspicious hands of the then Food Minister Honble Shri B. D. Jatti in 1966. Later the decision to provide education for mid high school education i.e. 5th, 6th, & 7th class for both Kannada & Marathi students was implemented from 1966. Shri M.B. Kothiwale was the first head-master of a school of linguistic unity.
At this juncture at the will of providence, as luck would have it; the VSM received a windfall of donation from great VIRTUE personified in Shri. Sidrani Parshuram Shinde-Desai who offered to the VSM the most precious donation of 351 acres of land at Examba. To commemorate this generosity and in deep gratitude, the VSM decided to name its Girls High School as able Subhadradevi Shinde hosarwadkar Girls High School with reverence for his mother. Then P.W.D. Minster Shri. Dewegouda and Shri Patil Puttappa, the chief of watch dog committee have witnessed the grand naming ceremony as chief guests on 28th February 1987, the silver jubilee year in the life of the VSM. The ceremony was blessed by Shri Shiddalingeshwar Mahaswamji of Basavamath. Along with Honarable Devegouda, Shri. Deshbhakta Ratnappa Kumbar and Shri. Basagouda Patil Chairman, Hira-Sugar Sankeshwar were present. The latter was so impressed by the academic performance of the VSM that he instantly declared a donation of Rs. 50,000/- to help peruse the VSM intention. The academic aircraft of the V.S.M. scored higher in the academic firmament with opening of Junior College classes in 1984 and the high school was renamed as "Ganapati Ishwarappa Bagewadi Comp. Pre University College".
In order to offer an immediate professionally viewed avenue for S.S.L.C- passed students, the V.S.M. started T.C.H in 1986 in Kannada medium as a response to the growing social demand by the people in the vicinity. The Government of Karnataka has also accelerated the academic leap of the V.S.M. granting permission to start English- Medium Primary School in the same year. A little self dependent now, the V.S.M. began to flutter its wings to fly wider opening Kannada & Marathi Convent School in 1993. In 1996 the college of Business Administration was opened, realizing the need of the hour, to impart education in Computer Science, graduation in B.C.A. started in 2000-01. The B.Ed. course followed in the year 2004. In the opening years of the 21st century it became necessary to accommodate the students of diverse graduation courses to look out for a suitable site where in proper academic environment could be provided for higher studies. A land of 18 acres near Shirpewadi, not too far from the crowded town within the reach of an average student was purchased in 2004. The foundation stone was laid at the auspicious hand of Shri Jagadguru Shivalingeshwar Mahaswamiji, Siddhasanstha, Siddheshwarnath, Aadi.
The occasion was graced by eminent personalities like Shri Prabhakar Kore (MLC and Chairman of KLE Society), Shri Malhargouda Patil (Ex-Minister of the state of Karnataka), Shri Prakash Hukkeri (Ex-Minister of the state of Karnataka), Shri Umesh Katti, Shri A.B.Patil and hundreds of other dignitories from various walks of life. The construction of the new and huge building was fastly carried out, and the very next year i.e. on 20th June 2005, the new infrastructure was inaugurated at the auspicious hand of Shri. Allamaprabhu Mahaswamiji Siddhasansthamath, Chinchani. All the Degree-Courses- i.e. D.Ed, B.Ed., BBA, BCA are Running in the new campus where each student feels contented for having made the right choice. Recently i.e. in the year 2006, yet the another degree course of B.P.Ed. has been introduced. Many lovers of education have declared cash prizes in their or their relatives names to encourage the spirit of education amongst the students. A good number of members of the VSM are vehement in supplying uniforms, books and other educational aid to enhance the academic urge amongst the poor students.
The reward for the efforts of the Mandal and the labor put in by the teaching & Non-Teaching staff has been visible. Countless number of students in various faculties has been fruitfully placed in different jobs and in different places. Shri. P. B. Patil is an illustrious example working in Michigan University, America. As a bold step in education, the VSM also offers NCC training for the female students. It is training in availing new job opportunities and creating fearlessness amongst poor class of the society. As a new feather in the cap the VSM has started the Technical Institute since 2010 to cater the needs of rural youth, VSMIT presently running two shift in its first shift Degree program and in its 2nd shift diploma programs. The Vidya Samvardhak Mandal takes this opportunity to appreciate and thank all those who have raised their helping hand to raise it to this height from a sapling to a fully blooming huge public garden.
