An educational system is worth a great deal only when it teaches how to make a life than to make a living. Giving education must be able to put someone to wholesome and meaningful work.
Shri Nehru Vidyalaya was founded in the year 1964 by a group of philanthropists belonging to the business community under the banner ‘Coimbatore Welfare Association’. Their intention was to impart quality education to the children from in and around Coimbatore, and mould them into well – adjusted, fully developed, multi – faceted personalities, with many dimensions to their character to face any challenge. Initially the school was started with strength of just 11 students and the current strength of the school is 3010.
Initially the school was started at Lakshmi Buildings, the godown of M/s. T V Brothers.
Due to the increase in the strength, in year 1965, the school was shifted to a rented building at Venkataswamy Road, R S Puram.
To enable the students to continue their education without any difficulty after class 5, school started the higher classes in 1969.
In the year 1972, school started class 9 and got affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education. In the year 1973, the school moved to its own premises wherein the school is functioning successfully at present. Subsequently the school switched over to matriculation stream from the year 1982-1983.
Considering the repeated requests from the parents, the CWA has started Pre K.G. class from the academic year 2005-2006. The school has classes from Pre K.G. to 12th standard.
