The Regional Pharmacy Institute (RPI) was established at Agartala during 1979 with the financial assistance of NEC (North Eastern Council) to cater Diploma Pharmacist throughout the North Eastern States with an intake capacity of 60. Subsequently the Institute had introduced degree (B.Pharm:04 years durative) course in addition to D.Pharm.(02 years durative) course with the renaming of RPI as Regional Institute of Pharmaceutical Science & Technology (RIPSAT) during November, 1997 with an intake capacity of 30. The participating states are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. Seat Distribution by NEC are done accordingly that is for Diploma Course - Arunachal Pradesh – 03, Manipur – 15, Mizoram – 15, Nagaland – 02 and Tripura – 25 and for Degree Course Arunachal Pradesh – 04, Assam – 04, Manipur – 04, Meghalaya – 03, Mizoram – 03, and Tripura – 12.
The course of Diploma in Pharmacy and Degree in Pharmacy are affiliated by Pharmacy Council of India (P.C.I.) and All India Council for Technical Education (A.I.C.T.E) since then the Institute is functioning effectively with Regional character for imparting Diploma and Degree in Pharmacy throughout these North Eastern States and the Institute can take pride of production so far 1423 qualified Pharmacists till March, 2013 since inception.
The Institute envisions the journey towards the development, towards the technical excellence among the students to make them globally competent pharmacists. The Institute strives to generate attitude and skills, conductive to the creation of academic, industrial, clinical and social environment for lifelong learning in pharmacy.
