Raja Rammohun Roy Mahavidyalaya has a special importance of its own for Radhanagar is the birthplace of Pioneer of Bengal Renaissance, Bharat Pathik Raja Rammohan Roy. His crusade against the cruel custom of Suttee started from this very place where her sister-in-law was burnt to death. The college named after this great soul and the doyen of New Bengal was founded in 1964 by Sri Shantimohan Roy, the great freedom fighter and the social worker. In the year 1972 it was recognized as Govt. sponsored college. From the very beginning the institution is trying its best to spread education both curricular and co-curricular to the common lot of the locality. Apart from the geographical disadvantages, the college had to face many infrastructural inadequacies from the time of its inception. But presently the situation is slowly changing with the help of The University Grants Commission, The Govt. of West Bengal, the local inhabitants of Khanakul and Radhanagar and last but not the least the student, teaching and non-teaching ctaff of the college. Now the college houses Network Resource Centre, Spoken English Training Programme, Higher Education for persons with Special Needs Scheme, Remedial Coaching along with the N.C.C and N.S.S as a part of its co-curricular and curricular-upporting facilities. More things are to be done and time will judge the efforts of this college in disseminating education in true sense to the students.
