The Jesuit tradition of education in India began in 1542 when St. Francis Xavier, one of the first members of the Society of Jesus, reached Goa. Today the Jesuits have more than 150 High Schools, 50 colleges, 11 Management Institutes, and 14 Technical Institutes which engage approximately 8,100 teachers educating more than 2,35,000 students in India belonging to every social class, community and Linguistic group.
