The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-B) welcomed thepublic sector jobs in the second placement-phase season. The public sector companieshave returned to IIT-B the campus after an interval caused due to the Madrashigh court order, which is now under stay.

The IIT-B placement cell approached several organizationsseeking placement from the government sector. On April 21, 2016 HPCL and CoalIndia visited the campus and offered jobs to approximately 20 students. Theyoffered salary packages around Rs 10 to Rs 12 lakhs per annum.

According to the placement cell official the second phase ofhiring is generally slow, but the removal of the ban on PSUs hiring from IITs,we are expecting more companies and more job offers. He also said that previousyear only Coal India had made to the IIT-B campus but this year, twoorganizations have already made offers and we are expected to have more PSUs onthe campus.

As a result of petition filed in 2014, the governmentmonitored organizations were barred to conduct hiring from prestigious IITs andIIMs. The petition had sought for a ban on public sector companies to conductcampus placements at private institutes, as minimizing the chances of studentsfrom other government institutes competing for the same jobs. The ban waslifted in December 2015, which gave liberty to the private institutes toapproach more companies.
