The long cherished dream for establishing a teacher training institute was realized in the year 2004. The launching of a Teacher training institute in this rural artea of Puttur Taluk in Dakshina Kannada District is a crown in the pinnacle of Maria Society in its credentials as pace setter in the realm of higher education. The college has been approved by the Govt. of Karnataka being the registration No(20/URC-2003) and recognized by the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) Delhi (F.SRO/NCTE/B.ED2004-2005/9038/APSO2434) and is affiliated to Mangalore University.
Carefully designed college stands on a sprawling and salubrious campus of ten acres in Kunthoor Perabe aside on the Uppaningady Subramannya state highway is an ideal location for an educational institution with its excellent infrastructure, well defined ethos and innovative approach for higher education.
This college has been opened by the Diocese of Puttur to cater the educational needs of the future teachers, Irrespective of caste, creed and religion. The mission of the Maria Educational Society of the Diocese is the formation of academically, professionally, socially and morally committed and spiritually enlightened teachers realizing the fatherhood of God and brotherhood of man. Here teaching is viewed, not as a carrier, but as a call, a divine vacation. The college family very well realizes that the wisdom comes from God who is the seat of wisdom and with Him it remains forever.
Helen Caldecott says “Teachers, I believe are the most responsible and important members of society because their professional efforts affect the fate of the earth.”
On this 21st Century which is highly influenced by Information Technology, the place for teachers may seem to take a back seat will not be good for the Education System. The role of teachers never becomes redundant. Their role in achieving human excellence in a world of growing complexity and rapid technological changes is exceedingly becoming challenging. The present scenario of globalization, privatization, , liberalization, materialism, high calorie consumerism, terrorism, double standards of life, decline in values and ethics, explosion of technology, the importance of teacher is even more essential for the teacher and can give a gentle touch of love with feeling and care and direct the lives of youth with moral social and also spiritual values. Only a human being can discern what is right and wrong. Therefore, the rightful place of a teacher will always remain sacred in every society in the world.
On this noble vision our college is committed to the overall development of the teacher trainees who seek admission to this temple of wisdom would surely be mould as fully developed teachers of 21st century with a total commitment towards the noble mission of teaching, while they step out of the threshold of wisdom.
