Guru Gobind Singh Medical College was actually started by Guru Gobind Singh Vidya Sewak Society, Faridabad and the first batch of MBBS students was admitted in 1971 but as the Society was not able to run the College efficiently and even failed to get mandatory approvals from the appropriate authorities, it was shifted to Faridkot and responsibility to run this College was entrusted to a newly formed Trust named Guru Gobind Singh Educational Trust in May 1973 headed by late Gaini Zail Singh Ji the then Chief Minister of Punjab with Sh. Sat Pal Kapur, the then Member of Parliament as its Secretary; Sh. Niranjan Singh Talib, Former President, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee; Sh. Hans Raj Sharma, the then Finance and Health Minister of Punjab and Sh. Mohinder Singh, Former MP as its members
