About Institution

Government First Grade College, Sakaleshpur, is one of the prestigious institutions of Malnad region of the Western Ghatts in Hassan District. It was started on 14th August 1983. The name of Sakaleshpur evolved from Sakala-Aishwarya-pura. This means a place with complete wealth and prosperity. The college was inaugurated by the MLA Sri. J.D.Somappa with the vision of creating the values of Higher Education in the remote Malnad Areas. The College is situated in the midst of beautiful hills and Mountain ranges with plantations of coffee, Tea, cardamom, pepper, etc.
In the beginning, B.A & B.Com classes were started in the few rooms of Pre university College Building. Later in the year 02nd July 1998 the college was shifted to its own new building in Kudugarahally Village, Near Army Training Camp with well ventilated and spacious lecture halls, Library, Sports Ground and well equipped class rooms. To carry out its academic curricular & co-curricular pursuits, the college possesses well-equipped & well-maintained infrastructure, spread over an area of 14.02 acres. The college campus is modern and well-equipped for comfort. This campus offers a number of special opportunities to the students.
The College caters to the educational needs of poor students from economically and socially backward classes of remote villages. The college was duly recognized under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act 1956, on 1st October 2004. This immensely helped the college in faster development. The college moved in the right direction under the guidance from the Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Karnataka and also under the able administration of various Principals. The support of all the stake holders in the progress of the college cannot be forgotten. The college is affiliated to University of Mysore, one of the oldest and prestigious universities of the country. The college, at present, runs Two Under graduate programs of Bachelor of Arts (BA) & Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) from a handful of students. The college now boasts of student strength of more than three hundred
The faculty of the college is a fine blend of experience and youth. Several of the full time and Guest faculty members have many years of teaching and research experience. Out of 22 faculties, 4 members have registered/enrolled for Ph.D & 08 members have completed M.Phil Degree & 03 members have cleared NET/SLET. Some of the faculties have published research publications to their credit with the qualitative support by the University. The participation of the College Development Council and other local bodies has sustained the growth of the College under the guidance of the dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff with an able stewardship of the head of the institution. Learning process would be a fun and rewarding experience for students. Our objective is to provide quality education to the poor students, hailing from rural remote based laborers section of the society.
The College has drawn up an action plan to impart knowledge and to enable students to cherish their creative abilities. The college has provided so many opportunities and necessary platforms to express the studentsâ?? talent through clubs, forums, NSS, Scouts & Guides and Red Cross units. The institution has different committees, clubs & forums. These bodies have taken care of the studentsâ?? needs. Every year our NSS and Scouts & Guides Voluntaries represent in the local celebrations of Republic Day, Independence Day and other Programs.
The College maintains transparency in the admission process according to the rules and regulations of the Government of Karnataka and the affiliated University. There is an admission committee in the college, this committeeâ??s members conduct counseling and guide to the students in the selection of the course and combination.
The College IQAC contributes in encouraging innovative & best practices to improve the teaching-learning activities. Teachers are evaluated by the students twice in a year and feed-back is processed and analyzed by the Principal. Feedback results are intimated personally to the teachers. If necessary, suggestions are given to the teachers. The college always sticks to the concept of quality education and human touch is observed in all our best- practices and community services. Our college is well equipped with Computer lab, Library, furniture and other equipments. The Reference committee subscribes 08 journals, 08 magazines. The college has a full-fledged computer lab with 30 computers and the internet facility. The internet facility can be used from all the students of our college.

The College effectively makes use of Edusat-based programs like Computer learning, Spoken English and Administrative initiatives. Tutorial and Spoken English classes are conducted every year. Angla, Sahayog, Vikasana, Manavathe, STAR, and Nipunya Nidhi programs are conducted to improvise the soft skill techniques of the students. The Counseling Cell resolves the problems of the students through counseling and guidance. The Placement Cell offers plenty of job opportunities to the students through Job-Mela, organized by the Corporate Companies and other Institutions. The college regularly provides mentoring and guidance in the form of extra classes for academically weak students. In addition, the college organizes tutorial lectures on various social, moral, ethical and current topics. A good platform is provided to express the studentsâ?? talent through clubs, forums, NSS, Scouts & Guides and Red Cross units. The institution has 35 different committees, 10 clubs & 07 forums and these bodies have taken care of the studentsâ?? needs.
