Sar-La Education Trust is a public charitable Trust registered in New Delhi in 1982. Its Founder Trustee, Shri Lalji Mehrotra, a Gandhian freedom fighter as well as a businessman, diplomat and philanthropist. At at the age of 82 he decided to donate a part of his wealth to form this Trust to create a platform which would offer quality education to the underprivileged and weaker sections of our society who could not pursue their education due to limited means.
Sar-La Education Trust focused on vocational training and established Gandhi Vocational Training Institute at Mumbai in 1982 with courses like Electrician, Carpentry etc. Later it also introduced Computer courses. Today this institute specializes in courses like Tailoring & Cutting, Embroidery, Purse & Bag making and Fashion Designing. This Institute stands closed due to non-availability of leased premises w.e.f., July 31, 2012
In 2000, Lalji Mehrotra Technical Institute was established as an industrial training centre at Mumbai with courses recognized by Government of India under the aegis of National Council for Vocational Training. Today the institute offers courses like Architectural Assistant, Computer Operator and Programming Assistant, Draftsman (Mechanical), Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic (Refrigeration and Air Conditioning) and Network Technician. The institute has been acknowledged by the industry which absorbs the students passing out from these trades for gainful employment.
In order to promote the talent of youth in smaller towns, Sar-La Education Trust has established Sar-La Learning Centre at Indore. This centre offers courses in IT Software, Telecom Infrastructure, Operation and Maintenance, Mobile Repairing and Wireless Telecom Technology. It also offers much needed courses in employability training and soft skills. Such courses are offered in collaboration with reputed content providers like SEED Infotech Limited, Pune, Teleman Institute of Wireless Technologies Private Limited, Thane and Talentbridge Technologies Private Limited, Bengaluru.
To impart Vocational/ Industrial training to students from less privileged backgrounds for gainful employment.
To contribute to nation building with focus on targeting the youth from mid section of society in urban areas.
