Lakshmi Nandan Bora has come a long way to establish himself in the world of literature in Assam. The youngest of five children, he lost his parents within one year when he was seventeen. Since then his elder brother Kamal Chandra Bora, 22 years older than him, took care of all his needs and inspired Dr. Bora to become what he wanted to.Elected as the President for the 62nd session of Axom Xahitya Xabha, Dr. Bora is mainly a novelist and short-story writer and he has about 60 books to his credit. In addition, he has written a few dramas and some books on environment and agriculture and for neo literates. 

After passing his matriculation from Nagaon High School with star marks (highest mark in Sanskrit) in 1948, he did his BSc (Physics) from Cotton College, MSc (Physics) from Presidency College, Calcutta and PhD in Meteorology from Andhra University. First PhD in Meteorology in North-east India, Dr. Bora retired as the Prof. and Head of Physics and Meteorology from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat. He has been to Johannes Gutenberg University, Germany twice as visiting Professor. He was also the founder editor of Rongpur, a weekly published from Guwahati. He resigned in 1995 after developing ideological differences with the owner who is incidentally the prime accused in the infamous LoC scandal in Assam. Also the other organizations he is actively involved are Assam Science Society and Assam Pollution Control Board. Dr Bora was arrested in 1981 under NSA for participating in the Assam agitation.He received the Padma Shri award in 2015.
