Jillian Fiona (Jill) Banfield  is a geomicrobiologist and biogeochemist whose work focuses on the fundamental relationship between microorganisms and their chemical environments. Her most noted work includes publications on how microorganisms alter their chemical and physical environments during simulated bioremediation.She receives Benjamin Franklin Medal in Earth and Environmental Science of the Franklin Institute in 2011.
