Rohit Gurunath Sharma is an Indian cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and an occasional right-arm off break bowler who plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket. He is the captain of the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. He was born on 30 April 1987 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. He has completed his primary education at Our Lady Of Vailankanni High School, Mumbai. He was then enrolled in Swami Vivekanand International School on a scholarship, after his talent was noticed by the school's cricket coach Dinesh Lad at a summer camp. He excelled in the Giles and Harris Shield school cricket tournaments after which he was selected for the Mumbai Under-20. Later he was also chosen for India's Under-17 and Under-19 teams. He was then selected for India tour to England and Ireland in 2007, where he made his ODI debut against Ireland. He has also scored triple century in the Ranji Trophy.

In 2013, he was promoted to open the innings in ODIs and tiil then he is performing consistently. He was called into the Indian Test team in February 2012 when V. V. S. Laxman failed to recover from an injury. On 13 November 2014, he scored record 264 runs against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, which is the highest individual score in ODIs by any cricketer. He is also the only cricketer who have scored 2 double centuries in ODI cricket. In 2015, Sharma received the Arjuna Award, which is presented every year by the Government of India to recognize outstanding achievements in national sports in India.
