The Stewartville Youth Basketball Association (SYBA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Stewartville High School Basketball Programs for boys and girls, by introducing young players to the game of basketball and developing their skills as players. SYBA believes every student athlete should have an opportunity to play the game of basketball at his/her level. The SYBA aims to teach young players the physical skills necessary to become good basketball players and to help them develop the work habits, discipline, intensity, and commitment necessary to succeed at higher levels.
The SYBA values every player who participates in the program and recognizes that they are people first and players second. They deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. The SYBA is committed to building players’ self-esteem and confidence through positive and fair coaching. Players will have an opportunity to show what they can do in practice. Playing time in tournaments or games will be based on Attendance, Attitude, and Ability. Our goal is to put players in a position to succeed not only as individual players, but to experience the success of their team.
The SYBA believes financial concerns should not be an impediment to a student athlete participating in basketball. The SYBA will conduct fundraising activities and host tournaments to provide scholarships and offset the cost of administering the association.Players eligible to participate in SYBA must be in grades 4th-8th. SYBA recognizes “players’” as students who attend any schools in the Stewartville School district. No player outside the district may play on a team unless a written request is presented at a SYBA meeting or from a SYBA Board member. Request must have a 3?4 majority vote of Board members to allow eligibility.
