St. Joseph’s High School Gorakhnath had a humble beginning on 23rd February, 2001 with five teachers and 110 students in classes L.K. G. to I. The school began functioning in a tin shed in a land which was a mango grove and den of wild animals. Today the place has become a temple of learning and the school has established a distinct place in the educational map of Eastern Uttar Pradesh. The school was the response of the Catholic Diocese of Gorakhpur, to the constant demands made by the people of Gorakhnath for a school which will cater to the all –round development of their children. The school was started under the guidance of His Excellency Most Rev. Bishop Dominic Kokkat CST, Biship Emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Gorakhpur with Rev. Fr. Sony Kalladanthiyil as the Principal. St. Joseph’s School, Gorakhnath is a Christian school, affiliated to the Board of Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi, established in 2001 and administered by the Catholic Diocese of Gorakhpur. The school obtained the No Objection Certificate from the Government of Uttar Pradesh on 14th May, 2006 and was temporarily affiliated to the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi on 20th December, 2006. The school obtained permanent affiliation and was raised to the status of ISC School (Classes XI and XII) from the academic year in 2010- 2011. Abiding by the motto ‘Lead Kindly Light’ the school takes firm and steady steps for the academic excellence, development of skills and the character formation of the future citizens. The school marched ahead taking giant strides in the field of education under the able leadership of Rev. Fr. Joseph Kottukapally, the second Principal, and the Patronage of Most Rev. Bishop Thomas Thuruthmattam CST the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Gorakhpur.
The School primarily aims at the integral development of every child enrolled here. Education is for growth and development of all the faculties- intellectual, mental, physical, emotional as well as spiritual. It helps the growth of an individual into mature, responsible, broad minded, patriotic and disciplined citizens. We try to make our children committed to the service of god and of the nation and instill in them a spirit of compassion, selfless service, dedication to duty, love for the fellowmen and thirst for Excellence and wisdom. It is our earnest effort to give equal importance to the moral development of the students.
Being governed by the Catholic Church, a minority community, the school has the primary objective of educating the children of the community. However, we shall not spare any effort in rendering our service to all, irrespective of caste and creed so as to conserve their religion, language and culture.
