About Institution

The college is able to have its own campus and building through donations received. Considering the contributions made by Sri B. Sudhakar Shetty and Barkur Educational Society towards the infrastructure and facilities, the Government renamed the College as Smt. Rukmini Shedthi Memorial National Government First Grade College, Barkur during February 2004. Sri. Sudhakar Shetty has played a vital role in the overall development of the college from the initial stages itself. He with the support of his friends, relatives and local leaders, he constructed a building with a cost of 50,00,000 & donated to Government. The estimated value of the building is above 1, 00,00,000 as per PWD estimate. Keeping this in mind, in the fond memory of his mother college was renamed as Smt.Rukmini Shedthi Memorial National Govt. First Grade College by the Govt.of Karnataka. The building was inaugurated on 18-3-2006 by the then Chief Minister of Govt. of Karnataka Shri.H.D.Kumarswamy. Dr. Gabriel Fernandes Department of Medicine, Texas University, Texas, USA, the old student of NJC, donated a indoor hall with a seating capacity of 500 students. It is the only Govt. college to have building without Govt. aid in the very initial stage.
