In 1987, a saintly figure and local businessman named Late Sh. Ramditta Mal Bansal shared his visionary ideas concerning women education in Tohana and surrounding areas with some likeminded persons and subsequently with the blessings of a Jain sadhu, Shri Vijay Muni ji, a committee called Shri Durga Mahila Mahavidyalaya Samiti, Tohana (Regd.) came into being to establish an all-girl institute in the town in the same year to cater to the higher educational needs of the women students. In June 2002, the college got its approval from the higher education department, Govt. of Haryana to run under graduate courses in Arts, Commerce, BBA and BCA with effect from the coming session i.e. 2002-03 in its present building and thus, a new beginning was made. The college remained affiliated to Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra up to the academic session 2010-11, but now its affiliation is with Ch. Devi Lal University, Sirsa (w.e.f.2011-12 session) due to a decision of the Govt. to affiliate all Government and Private/ Aided colleges lying in Sirsa and Fatehabad districts to the latter. Having gone through numerous hurdles during all these years, the college today has grown in stature and strength to emerge as one of the leading institutes for women education in the area.
We too, like any other college, envision to be recognized as a reputed and creditable institution of higher learning, producing quality graduates at a competitive level and in line with the education policy of the state/ central Government and UGC. Our mission is, therefore, to provide students an environment of personal growth, opportunity, knowledge, exposure, individual attention and career direction.
