Peelamedu (formerly known as poolaimedu means Mound of Poolai Flowers) A Mound (medu) where more Poolai flowers(Aerva lanata) available for worship during Pongal festival) is a part of the city of Coimbatore. It has the Regional Transport Office of Coimbatore South(TN-37). It is a major commercial center, and one of the oldest residential parts of the city. The growth of Peelamedu during the last decade can be cited due to the growth of the IT sector in Coimbatore. The more mature and well connected Avinashi road and the Central Business Districts(CBD) of the city, Pellamedu as a whole draws a perfect balance between Old and New Coimbatore and is a phenomenon in terms of growth. The infrastructure of Pellamedu is a reflection of the lessons learnt from old coimbatore and a glimpse of new Coimbatore. Avinashi road is the major Arterial road runs through Pellamedu area. The 6-km Avinashi Road's stretch runs diagonally across Pellamedu area has become the hub of business for the city. Today, this road has turned out to be the most important arterial road in the city.

On November 11, 2011, People of Peelamedu celebrated the locality's 300th anniversary with special arrangement in schools and colleges and poojas in temples.
