Candidates suffering from blindness, locomotor disability and cerebral palsy can use scribes to write civil services preliminary and main examination, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has said. A compensatory time of twenty minutes per hour will be granted, as well.

The candidates with locomotor disability and cerebral palsy where dominant (writing) extremity is affected to the extent of slowing the performance of function, will be allowed to write the the civil services (preliminary) as well as the civil services (main) examination with the help of a scribe.

The other candidates, however, will have to write the paper in their own handwriting. The candidates appearing for the Indian Forest Service (IFS) examination will be getting an additional 60 minutes for each paper they attempt.

For those with a low vision, an allowance of writing the exam with the help of a scribe has been granted.

The candidates appearing for the civil services examination and the Indian Forest Service examination might be the same so after the common screening test done through civil services preliminary examination, separate lists will be prepared for the candidates eligible to appear in the civil service (Main) examination and Indian Forest Service (Main) examination.

The civil services examination is conducted by the UPSC annually in three stages--preliminary, main and interview, in order to select candidates for prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), amongst others.
