Scholarship amount doubles for Sainik schools

Haryana government has doubled the scholarship amount being given to cadets of Sainik Schools at Kunjpura and Rewari. 


Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who was presiding over a review meeting of functioning of Sainik Schools in Chandigarh on Monday, announced that the cadets would now get Rs 50,000 annually as scholarship instead of Rs 25,000. 


Khattar also gave approval for increasing their diet allowance from Rs 25 to Rs 75 per day. With this decision, cadets of both schools would get benefits of more than Rs 3.62 crore every year, he said. 


Principal of Sainik School, Kunjpura, Colonel Y S Parmar and Principal of Sainik School, Rewari, Group Captain Rajiv Sharma gave presentation of the activities being undertaken by their respective schools. 


The chief minister said it was the priority of the government to provide quality education, be it in government schools or private and added that Sainik schools could act as inspiration to other institutions. 


"Therefore, Sainik Schools should also invite government schools for visiting their campus as the learning methodology and environment there was different and more disciplined," he said, according to an official release. 


In Monday's meeting, Rs 2.5 crore was approved for completing the pending works of first phase of Sainik School, Rewari, and Rs 10.17 crore for second phase. Apart from this, approval of Rs 23 crore has also been given for construction of hostel building. 


It was also informed in the meeting that 656 students were studying in Sainik School, Kunjpura, and 468 students in Sainik School, Rewari.
