When the entire city was glued to their TV sets watching the World T20 cricket semi-final between India and West Indies on Thursday, a group of people were busy participating in a fund-raiser event at National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Nariman Point.

The Fort Convent Association (FCA) launched a project "Khilo" for promoting education of the underprivileged girl child. It was organised by the alumnus of Fort Convent School, Mumbai. A whopping amount of Rs1 crore was collected at the event for educating one hundred girls from deserving and underprivileged backgrounds — from Std 1st and 10th.

Education of a girl will cost Rs1 lakh, and we have collected Rs1 crore which means we will be educating as many as 100 girls," said Sumita Ghai, alumnus and one of the organisers.

The event was a fun-filled musical concert with famous music director trio Shankar, Ehsaan, and Loy, perfroming in the city after a gap of five years. Alumnus of the school include Ehsaan's sister Shama Noorani, actor Juhi Chawla, Rui JaiKishan, Rael Padamsee, Kittu Gidwani, Sana Sayeed and Meera Sanyal.

Talking about the concert, Ghai also mentioned that "the energy of the event was really good, and everybody enjoyed thoroughly". The FCA also has a Garden School that will be a kindergarten school for under-privileged girls. Besides this there is another plan to provide free vocational training and English speaking for women.

The event also had a fun raffle where around 50 lucky winners won various prizes — a Zee gold coin, tickets to Singapore by Cox & Kings, and a few hampers amongst others.

Archita Kothari of Shirpur Gold Refinery Ltd said: "Shirpur Gold Refinery Ltd as an entity takes a great pleasure in becoming the part of this unique event & initiative to bring the change in the life of underprivileged girl child & see a smile on their faces by providing them quality education.

She added: "The function was really elegant. I enjoyed the program so much and sure people who were there must have same feeling too. I wish the organisers a great success ahead and please accept my special thanks for channelizing the energy level in conducting the project Khilo. I value the effort and approach from bottom of my heart.

Talking about the event, Ehsaan said: "We don't get to perform much in Mumbai but we have also played for the cancer patients as well. I chose this one not only because Shama is my sister, but education is the way further.

We loved the vibe, and the South Bombay crowd is always fun! We will keep doing stuff like this and wish them luck.
