Haryana Education Department has decided to introduce activity-based learning in the government schools as a pilot project. They have made this decision to overhaul the poorly performing academic atmosphere, augment the skills of the students and make learning more fun & interesting, enhance the learning skills of the school children and to promote child-friendly atmosphere in schools.

PK Das, Additional Chief Secretary School Education Department said that they want the students to enjoy coming to school. Instead of just learning by rote (memorization and tiresome study routine), the students will be able to learn through various activities. Workshops of teachers are being held to prepare a framework for the purpose. This will also improve the quality of the students as they will develop an interest in learning.

The objective behind such introduction is to endorse the children's learning programme with fun and happiness. Another primary objective is to make sure no student fails in the Haryana board exams. In order to augment the mathematical and scientific knowledge of the students, experts from such domain would be invited to interact with the students for their better understanding of the subjects and the ambiguity of concepts.

Creating awareness among the student is one of its primary aims besides augmenting their skills and development. Activities such as student outreach to local areas and spreading the awareness on the ill-effects of careless disposition of plastic bags in their surroundings are welcomed. It is strongly advocated that such activities will instill the sense of responsibility in the mind of the students

PK Das said that there are students who might not be good in academics, but are good in other activities. When grading the personality of the student, these activities should be accounted for. Around 20 different kinds of activities will be started in the schools. Even students who are physically challenged would be involved with sporting activities. The aim is to ensure that all students are involved in activities that they enjoy.

This helps in promoting skills and development among the students, which will identify the talent and vocational prospect of the students who are weak in studies. Besides various activities, Saturday would be devoted entirely for extra-curriculum and fun oriented learning activities in order to groom the creativity of the school children.
