It would be a different Republic Day celebration for Thane students as they have been invited to witness their favourite cartoon characters on the Republic Day floats.Students from over 40 schools will be a part of the celebration. Nickelodeon toons like Motu Patlu, Shiva, Dora and Pakdam Pakdai will be on the floats and the event will have lots of surprises, which includes a horse march, cycle parade and various floats representing regional diversity of the country.

The organisers said the cartoon characters that have originated from India have become popular and nowadays, kids have lost the frenzy for foreign cartoon characters. "The regional characters, too, have become famous and are a major attraction for kids. With the inclusion of these cartoons, we aim to spread positive message to the kids," said a organiser. The popular toons will be a part of walk floats and will convey many important and social messages, like Make in India and importance of following an eco-friendly lifestyle. Shiva is leading the cycle race, whereas others characters will lead different floats and kids as young as five will be a part of it.

"Through banners like 'Make In India', which kids will hold and walk, we want to encourage the younger generation to use Indian products. Since it becomes difficult to change the preferences once they grow up, so Republic Day is the right day to spread a word," he said.Anigdha Sumay, a student, said, "It is exciting to see my favourite cartoon characters on Republic Day." Students from Sri Ma Niketan, Saraswati and other schools will be present.
