The smartly dressed students presented themselves before the recruiters. The drive started as early as 6 am and continued till late at night. The interviews matched with the timings in US, where major software companies are based.

The students selected on day one were offered hefty salary packages and given offshore locations. Sources said that Goldman Sachs was the best hirer of the day and selected maximum students. Another global company Tower Research was much sought after among students.

Tower Research had last year also remained a rage among the students and the company had also not disappointed and offered high salary packages.

Major participants on the day one were Oracle US, Oracle India, Google US, Google India, Samsung Korea, Microsoft India and US, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, EXL, Schlumberger, Opera Solutions, Price Water Coopers and others, who selected students through different rounds of interviews.

This was for the first time Samsung Korea had come to IIT-K. Till last years, Samsung India used to hire students from IIT-K. This year, the parent company had come, giving a perfect start to the phase one of the drive.

The students of computer science and those pursuing dual degree were much sought after by software companies. The students of electrical engineering were also in demand. They were picked by companies after thorough analysis of their personality.

Though the placement cell of the institute did not reveal about the highest package bagged by the individual student and the name of the hiring company but it was learnt that Microsoft and Google gave weightage to cumulative percentile index (CPI) of students. The students with more than 9 CPI were given preference by companies like Microsoft. Other major hirers judged students on the basis of their personality, academics and participation in extra curricular activities. The drive will continue on Tuesday.
