NSA is a small community where students and faculty live, train, study and work together in an atmosphere of trust and support. Day students, joined by boarding students, from as far away as Sweden and China, build lasting friendships with students from a range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
One of the keys to the quality of the learning experience at NSA, is the communication that takes place among teachers, coaches and students. School and advisor meetings, held several times weekly, enables the community to collaborate. In addition, students work together to participate in dish duty after meals, to lead service learning projects and to support one another in athletic events.
An exceptional high school experience, NSA offers athletic, academic and character and leadership development opportunities. We ask students to accept a high level of responsibility for helping to shape the school, both athletically, academically and socially. NSA students are well prepared in the life skills of time management, problem solving and collaboration.
The demands placed on an NSA student are diverse. Each student must learn how to allocate their resources effectively. We help students make good decisions and budget their time wisely. NSA students have an enormous opportunity; given their location, access to coaching and dynamic teaching, to shape their environment.
Every day is unique. In the Fall and Spring terms, breakfast is served at 7:00 AM, and classes begin at 12:45 PM and end at 6:15 PM with athletic training in the morning. During the Spring term, classes are in the morning and are followed by athletic training in the afternoon. Study halls throughout the day and evening provide students with ample opportunities to receive extra help from faculty and/or academic assistance if they need it.
