About Invention

A lollipop is a type of confectionery now consisting of a sweetmeat of hard candy or water-ice mounted on a stick and intended for sucking or licking.Different informal terms are used in different places, including lolly, sucker, sticky-pop, etc.[citation needed] Lollipops are available in many flavors and shapes.


Sam Born was a Russian-born American businessman, candy-maker and inventor. In 1910 he came from Russia to the United States. In 1916, Sam Born was awarded the "key to the city" of San Francisco for inventing a machine that mechanically inserted sticks into lollipops. In 1923, in New York City he founded Just Born company, a candy manufacturer that still manufactures Peeps, Mike and Ike and Hot Tamales.
