Welcome to the IIT Madras International Symposium on Healthcare! The 4 day extravaganza set to change your perceptions and broaden your horizons from the 3rd to 6th of January 2015.

The theme for this year's symposium is "Healthcare". Under this broad umbrella topic, we would be discussing the influence technology and big data have on healthcare, the policy changes India would need to implement in order to improve the healthcare scenario and the large widening disparity that exists in the healthcare industry today.

Participants of the IITM International Symposium would get to meet some of the biggest names in Health Technology and Health Policy from all around the world. In addition to the huge cultural exchange between the international and Indian students and the tremendous learning curve made possible due to a diverse set of participants, the IITM Symposium promises to be a great experience for all!

Shaastra 2015 Fest Guests: Mr. Sanjay Joshi is the CTO, Life Sciences at the EMC Isilon Storage Division and based in Seattle, USA. His 22 year career has spanned the entire gamut of life-sciences from clinical and biotechnology research to healthcare informatics to medical devices. His current focus is Big Data in Genomics and Proteomics.

Manu Prakash is on a mission to bring radical new technology to global health. Mr. Prakash's ultra-low-cost, "print-and-fold" paper microscope won a $100,000 grant from the Gates Foundaton in 2012.

Mr Ramaswamy has served in Philips for a total of close to 5 years and is currently the Director and Head of Philips’ Healthcare division.

Dr. Somil Nagpal is a Senior Health Specialist with the South Asia region of the World Bank. Prior to this, he served the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority, India, where he was responsible for setting up the country’s first?ever specialized health insurance regulation unit and headed the regulatory and developmental initiatives for the health insurance sector of the country from 2007 to 2009.

Devi Prasad Shetty is an Indian philanthropist and a cardiac surgeon. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in India for his contribution to the field of affordable healthcare.

Prof. Gita Sen is a Development Economist at the Centre for Public Policy at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, and the adjunct Professor of Global Health and Population at the Harvard School of Public Health. Her research areas include human development with particular focus on Health, Population, Gender and Development, and Inequality. She has been published extensively in national and international media.
