About Institution

Ekamra College is the oldest non-govt. aided college in Bhubaneswar .It came into being to meet the growing demand for expansion of higher educational institution in this burgeoning city.
In July, 1978 under the stewardship of Late Dr.HarekrushnaMahtab a group of enthusiastic members gathered at EkamraNivas to give shape to his dream. On 22nd August, 1978, the College started functioning in the premises of B. B. High School and was formally inaugurated on 6th of September the same year.
The college though not located at the heart of the capital city is well connected by road, rail and even air. The main bus terminus of the city, the Baramunda Bus Terminus, is only 4 kms away and frequent town bus and auto rickshaw services connecting to the bus stop as well as to other parts of the city are available round the clock. The nearest railway station that is the Lingaraj Passenger Halt is only at a distance of half a kilometre. The BijuPatnaik International Airport is only 3 kms away. Apart from this, it also enjoys the locational advantage of being within close proximity to the suburbs and peripheral rural habitats that exist on the southern fringes of the city. This provides the institution with a higher influx of students.
The college enjoys the pride of place of being the oldest Non-Government Aided educational institution in the city. The college has grown with many years of experience and thus attained the ability to tide over difficult circumstances.
There exists ample scope for higher academic pursuit with several institutions of higher learning and research like the Regional Research Laboratory, the Utkal University, Institute of Physics, the Mahatab State Library, the State Archives and the State Museum Library located within the city.
A fairly well qualified, experienced, vibrant, energetic and enterprising set of teaching staff in the college work with complete determination and dedication to ensure not only a good standard of academic performance among students but also to create in them the qualities of a complete human being.
It is worth mentioning that there is a general preference among students for pursuing graduation studies in Commerce in this college. This, under all probable circumstances, is due to the efficient faculty and track record of good performance of students in university examinations.
The campus of the college spreads over an area of 10 acres and as availability of financial resources are being explored and invested, the process of physical expansion of the college is currently underway.
