Book Description

Undoubtedly health is a multidimensional concept and certainly much more than the absence of diseases. Although Health is itself a positive state but the term “Positive Health” is also not uncommon. Health professionals have started to believe that positivity plays a definitely stronger role than negativity, particularly in fighting off diseases and integrating the health promotive strengths of the individuals. There may be many working models to explain health behaviors but the biopsychosocial model seems to be an exhaustive approach, which proposes that health and illness are consequence of physical, psychological and socio-cultural variables. This model has fueled significance in researches pertaining to health issues. There is a strong need to work toward greater applications of the biopsychosocial model and move it from the theoretical realm into a more practical one.The present book has been edited with this very objective in mind. There are total 26 important articles have been classified into three broad sections. First section consists of eight articles dealing with the nature and theory of positive health. The second section comprises of eight articles reflecting more a data based and empirically demonstrated determinants and contributors of positive health. The third section focuses on the intervention and application part. Different intervention strategies are being spelled out with sufficient supporting evidences. The compilation is a serious effort to assimilate theory, research and practice of biopsychosocial approach in positive health. The Editors are quite hopeful that the theoretical, conceptual, empirical and analytical endorsement in the book will be a great source of knowledge as well as research ideas alongwith some effective intervention programmes.
