We are incorporated in a society where the majority of the students study only for marks and left the important things. Meanwhile, we are unaware of the nature like plants, animals etc...that surrounds us eventhough we studied about in our early days.
Let us rewind about the plant kingdom in a brief here.
Plant Kingdom:-
The plant kingdom is majorly classified in to cryptogams and phanerogams.
What is cryptogam?
The cryptogams are the non-flowering plants. They are majorly classified in to
Thallophyta
Bryophyta
Pteridophyta
These are classified depending on the presence of roots, stems and leaf-like structures.
Thallophyta:-
The plants in this category do not have a differentiated root, stem and leaves. The body is simple and it is called as “thallus”.
Eg:- algae, bacteria, fungi and lichens.
Bryophyta:-
The plants in this category have defined stem and leaf like structures, but no roots.
Eg:- Mosses
Pteridophyta:-
The plants in this category have a structured root, stem and leaves. But they don’t flower.
Eg:- Ferns
What is Phanerogam?
Phanerogams are the flowering plants which are divided in to
Gymnosperms &
Angiosperms
These are divided based on the presence or absence of fruits.These are also called as Spermatophytes. The higher plants belong to this group. The reproduction through seeds is the outstanding feature of this group.
Gymnosperms:-
The Gymnosperms are called as the “Ever green plants”. The Gymnosperms have roots, stems, leaves, flowers and naked seeds . The flowers are unisexual and simple. These are arranged in cone like structures. The roots are well developed and it has needle shaped leaves.
Eg:cycas and pinus
Angiosperms:-
Angiosperms are the highest form of plants comprising nearly 200,000 species. They bear true flowers and their seeds are enclosed with in the fruits.
Eg:- Rose ,pea
These are further divided in to monocotyledon and dicotyledon which differs in their seeds.
