Sudha Malhotra is an Indian playback singer. She also acted in some Bollywood films and as a playback singer worked in popular Bollywood movies in the 1950s and 60s, like Arzoo, Dhool Ka Phool, Ab Dilli Door Nahin, Girl Friend, Barsat Ki Raat, Didi, Kala Pani, Prem Rog, Dekh Kabira Roya. She was last heard in Raj Kapoor's Prem Rog (1982) in the song Yeh Pyar tha ya kuch aur tha. Apart from Hindi songs Sudha sang many popular Marathi songs (Bhavgeet) with Arun Date. She was awarded the Padma Shri by Government of India in 2013. Sudha Malhotra was born on 30th November, 1936 in New Delhi. She grew up in Lahore, Bhopal and Firozpur. As she grew up, she discovered a fact that she has a liking for music. Though people were not very supportive for a girl to sing during that pre-independence period, she was determined to make a career in music. She started listening to early year's songs and kind of got her initial music teaching from them only. However, later she was of the opinion that only an initial training was not going to help her in the long run. So, in order to be music professional in future, she did a graduation in music from Agra University. She also used to sing as a child artist and she always wanted to make it large as a singer in the future.

Sudha Malhotra was discovered by Ghulam Haidar, a prominent music composer of the 1940s. As a result she debuted in a film called 'Aarzoo'. Later she went to sing many hit songs for movies like Dhool Ka Phool, Arzoo, Ab Dillli Door Nahin, Girl Friend, Didi, Kala Pani, Barsaat Ki Raat, Dekh Kabira Roya and Prem Rog. Her last song was 'Yeh Pyaar Tha Ya Kuch Aur' for the movie 'Prem Rog' in1982. She has sung 264 songs in 155 films.
