The Medical College Ex-Student's Association, Calcutta is celebrating its 78th Reunion (Matiya) coupled with an International Scientific & Academic Conference and Cultural Program from 28th till 31st January 2012 at Medical College Campus, Kolkata. We are paying tribute to Dr. Nilratan Sircar, the 1st President of the Association and Dr. Kadambini Ganguly, the first Lady Medical College Graduate of entire British Empire outside Britain ,through various commemorative programs in their memory from 29th - 31st January 2012 respectively.The Medical College Ex-Student's Association, Calcutta is celebrating its 78th Reunion (Matiya) coupled with an International Scientific & Academic Conference and Cultural Program from 28th till 31st January 2012 at Medical College Campus, Kolkata. We are paying tribute to Dr. Nilratan Sircar, the 1st President of the Association and Dr. Kadambini Ganguly, the first Lady Medical College Graduate of entire British Empire outside Britain ,through various commemorative programs in their memory from 29th - 31st January 2012 respectively.31st January has been designated as "Dr. Kadambini Ganguly Memorial Day" to pay our tribute to this illustrious Alumnus of Medical College, Kolkata, which will be inaugurated by Smt Krishna Bose, along with guest of honour Dr. Miratul Nahar, the leading voice on Women, Society, and Education ,who will deliver a lecture on "Women in Higher Education".Dr. Kadambani Basu (Ganguly) was born on May 08th ,1961 to a Brahmo Samaj Reformer named Braja Kishore Basu. She was the first Indian women to clear the admission test into Calcutta University and subsequently the first in whole of British Empire to study Medicine. She went on to study at Edinburgh, Dublin, and Glasgow. After her marriage to Brahmo reformer Dwarkanath Ganguly, she joined Indian National Congress and actively participated in its meetings . She died on 03rd October 1923, leaving behind a legacy hard to follow.The present 78th Reunion Organsing Committee has many first to its credit. For the first time, the committee has invited ex-alumni speakers from US and UK who have given lecture on pursuing higher education in USA and UK .It is also for the first time in the scientific session delegates are using Voting Pad in their interactive session.Under the able guidance of Hony.Secretary, MCESA Dr. Ashish Basu and futuristic vision of Scientific Secretary, Dr. Debabrata Roy who initiated the above many first as part of Organsing Committee Member. An effort is being made on part of the association to set up an Advanced Centre of Learning at their alma mater, harnessing the help of the alumni who are now in important positions at various institutions in India and Abroad. The committee is also honoring Senior Doctors for their life time achievements, as well as present students for their meritous positions.
