The forest is the best resource that have been provided to us by nature and our forefathers. They loved leading a nature friendly life with forest. They planted many saplings selflessly and felt happy on growing a tree.

But we started clearing forest for own selfish industrial growth without thinking about consequence and now we are in the edge for conserving forest resource for the future generation.

Forest acts as the lungs of the earth it provides 85% of the oxygen that we breathe . The forest plays a critical role in biodiversity and global warming of our ecosystem. The UN celebrates International Day of Forest on March 21 of every year to create awareness and to establish the importance of forest in our life.

Benefits of Forest:-

  • Forests shelter, nurture and inspire. 1.6 billion people depend on forests for their livelihoods, medicine, fuel and food. Forests cover 31% of global land area.
  • Forest are the best source of clean water. Forested watersheds and wetlands supply 75 percent of the world’s accessible freshwater
  • About one-third of the world’s largest cities obtain a significant proportion of their drinking water directly from forested protected areas
  • Forests act as natural water filters
  • Climate change is altering forests role in water flows and the availability of water resources
  • Forests have a crucial role in building and strengthening resilience
  • Forests are the only way to absorb all the carbon-di-oxide that we emit.
  • Forest acts as the shelter for the countless number of species
  • 20% of the world’s oxygen is produced in the Amazon forest

Deforestation Statistics:-

  • Every year more than 36 million acres of forest are lost which is roughly as the size of England.
  • The deforestation directly affects 80% of the biodiversity and it accounts for 12% to 20% percentage of global carbon emission and it serves as the main cause for climate change
  • If the deforestation moves steadily at this rate there will be no rainforest in the next hundred years

So what are we going to do now? recreation of forest or afforestation is the only way to revamp our nature but that is not a easy process and it takes time. Steady  afforestation and decreasing deforestation is the only way to sustain our forest resource. Plant trees save Earth

International Forest Day Resolution:-

  • Decrease the usage of paper and recycle the paper for further usage
  • Decrease the usage of fire woods
  • Support and buy only eco friendly products
  • Create awareness among children and make them interested in gardening
  • Plant and grow trees as many as possible
